Brilliant article on Political correctness

This article by John Derbyshire

turned up on arts and Letters Daily yesterday, the best definition and description of it I have seen to date (and it is an extremely difficult thing to properly define), and also goes into the pitfalls and problems in some depth. It is also a very balanced treatment of the subject, recognising that PC sprang from good intentions and only gained the name and reputation it now has when it went beyond simple courtesy into nonsensical speech codes and other extremes, overcompensating for past ills.

Well I finally, finally got around to it

Creating a blog that is, just like millions of other people.

What makes this one stand out from all the rest?
Well, actually, at the moment, absolutely nothing whatsoever. Gimme a break I've only just started! But hopefully I'll have lots of thoughtful balanced commentary to come (along with the occasional rant of course)

Who am I? I'm the webmaster for the Sensible Sentencing Trust at www.safenz.org.nz (although several other domain names work just fine). I'm not paid for it of course, it is a non-profit organisation with limited resources. To pay the mortgage I work for Telecom NZ as a Network Engineer
If you really want to know more, read my profile, which I am about to write now
